Borders Drawn in Blood
Island of Sicily
Sicily is a diverse island, its people living in relative peace. It is currently organized as an Emirate. It is composed of Catholics, Christians, and Muslims living an unsegregated life. When the Moors and Saracens conquered the Island they did not tolerate paganism, so that practice has been wiped out, either through conversion or execution.
The predominant language is Arabic, however both French and Italian are still spoken commonly. Both the Sicilian French and Italian have begun to become influenced by Arabic making them very different from the Italian or French spoken elsewhere in the region.
The Island is currently under attack by Roger I of Normandy who staged an invasion from the nearby Norman Principality of Capua. He has taken roughly 1/3 of the island but has found himself in a stalemate for the rest.
