Borders Drawn in Blood
The Italian people at this time are a very diverse group. The Italian Language is very closely related to its predecessor Latin. However, there are hundreds of dialects, and 4 distinct regional Italian languages (Venetian, Tuscan, Roman, and Neopolitan-Southern). A 5th is forming by the introduction of Arabic to the existing Italian in Sicily.
The people of the peninsula identify themselves as belonging to one of the splintered regions before considering themselves “Italian”.
