Kingdom of Lombardy
The Kingdom of Lombardy is a failing Nation within the Holy Roman Empire. Its nobles have been deposed or died in office in rapid succession over the past 50 years. The Roman Catholic Church has intervened to maintain stability. The entire region is loyal to Emperor Henry IV and the Regions Churches answer to Anti-Pope Clement III. The secular rulers are controlled by the ecclesiastical rulers of the Church, and more specifically, the Bishop of Milan.
Before Charlemagne, the area of Lombardy was conquered by a Germanic tribe named the Longobards. Germanic influences continue to shape culture and language of Lombardy. The region predominantly speaks German and enjoys close allegiance with other German Nations to the North (also a part of the Holy Roman Empire and the Emperor’s Seat of power).
